Jaamil KOSOKO/performance

Jaamil KOSOKOPoet, instructor, and interdisciplinary performance artist, JAAMIL OLAWALE KOSOKO, creates spectacle dance-theater installations that fuse original text, media, and theatrical elements inside the thinking moment of detailed improvisation.  Imagine a nest of sexually delirious doves trying to teach humans how to make love or a white room filled with wires where bodies and computers are forced to interact as one living organism.  These scenarios create KOSOKO's metaphorical, confessional, absurd and oftentimes comical approach to live performance.  An improviser by nature, KOSOKO is most interested in choreographing the qualities and movement states inside which a body can exist to solve kinesthetic questions.  KOSOKO is the artistic director of the Philadelphia based performance group: KOSOKO/perFORMance.  He performs regularly in the creative works of various companies including Pig Iron Theatre Company, Headlong Dance Theater, Leah Stein Dance Company, and the Emergent Improvisation Ensemble among others. He is a program associate for Dance/USA Philadelphia and a contributing writer to the Broad Street Review.  Experience KOSOKO/perFORMance online at www.kosokoperformance.org
