5 Weekend Festival Must Haves

When it comes to outdoor celebrations, music festivals are some of the best there are. We want you to have a great time and make great memories, and packing the right way is an easy way to do it. Below, we’ve put together a list of what you should pack when you’re camping at a weekend festival. Stay hydrated, don’t take in any prohibited items, and most of all–have a lot of fun!

Make it Easy to Get Some Rest

Sleeping when there’s a concert going on can be a bit challenging, but most die-hard festivalgoers can snooze anywhere they can sit down. However, with recent advances in hammock and tent tech, a good night’s sleep can be more than just a dream. Choose a tent or hammock that will accommodate you, your companions and your belongings while keeping you protected from those rain showers that always seem to pop up.

Pull up a Chair

You’ve been walking all day from stage to stage, hurrying to catch your favorite acts. By now, you’re tired and ready to take the first available seat–why not lounge in comfort? There’s a big selection of camping chairs, and most are super-light and portable. By choosing the right chair, you’ll be ready to take a break when the action cools down.

Keep Cool

Summer may be the hottest time of the year, but you can keep cool with a handheld AC that works well and won’t hurt your wallet. These neat inventions will make you the envy of all your neighbors, and they’ll help you stay cool when it’s hot outside.

Stay Powered Up

Cell phones and cameras are all likely to be dead after the first day, and if you are lucky enough to find an outlet, it’s likely to already be in use. Don’t be stuck without a way to stay in touch or take pictures! Bring along a power source to charge your camera, phone and handheld AC, and you’ll have juice left over. Bring an extra, and you’ll really be prepared!

Don’t Pack Heavy

You’ll need a good camping pack, especially if you’re staying for the whole weekend. These packs have style, and they’re big enough to hold all your daily belongings. Be careful though, as your belongings may be searched on the way into some festivals. By following the advice we’ve given you here, you’ll be comfortable without missing out on any of the fun of festival season.

Tips for First Time Festivalgoers

Some music festival attendances are impromptu events, but others require lots of preparation and packing. Not everyone is a festival pro–so our tips can help rookies enjoy their first experience and stay safe and clean while they’re doing it.

Choose a Tent That’s Slightly Large

A two-person tent for you and a companion may seem average, but that sizing is based on two adults lying close to one another and it doesn’t factor in all of your stuff. By going a couple of sizes up, you can have room for you, your friend and all your stuff.

Don’t Lock it Up

Locking your tent makes others believe you have something worth stealing, and tents are easy to get into anyway. Don’t leave valuables in your tent, and only take in what you need.

Watch Out for Hazards

When it’s nighttime and you’ve had a drink or two, walking through the campground can be difficult. Use your phone or a flashlight to feel your way around while avoiding other people’s tents.

Don’t Go it Alone

Going to a festival alone can be very tempting, especially if you can’t find a friend to tag along. It’s not a good idea for first-time attendees to go solo; it may be unsafe, and if something happens there’s no one there to help you.

Take Wet Wipes

There aren’t many places to shower at a music festival, so you’ll need plenty of wet wipes. They can be used to remove makeup, cleanse your body, wash up before dinner, and clean up after going to the bathroom.

Stay Out of the Mud

This one’s hard when it rains, but you should make an effort to avoid rolling, walking and sitting in the mud. You probably won’t get a shower the whole weekend, and you don’t want to be grimy for the entire time.

Get Friendly With the Neighbors

You’ll be next to them for the whole weekend, so it’s good to get to know them. Who knows–you may end up with a new friend, and if someone needs something, you’ll be there to help out.

Bring Plenty of Cash

Festival experiences can be expensive, and it’s better to have too much money than to run short. After all, you don’t want to have to leave to find an ATM if none are available–you’ll miss out on all that fun!

We’ve left the most important tip for last. When going to a festival, you should pace yourself. While festivals are a time to let loose and have a blast, moderation is the key. If you will be drinking, it’s safer to drink less so you’ll remember it more. Festivals can be once-in-a-lifetime experiences for some, and by following the tips above, you can create memories that last a lifetime.

Do’s and Don’ts for Music Fests

Going to an outdoor music festival can be exciting, especially if you’ve never been. If you’re a festival newbie, you should follow our list of do’s and don’ts for survival tips and a little more.

Do: Be Prepared

You’ve probably decided which outfits to wear and which acts you want to see, but you probably haven’t thought as much about what else you’ll take. Being unprepared can be costly, as there will always be someone there charging too much for those items you forgot. By making a checklist, you won’t forget the essentials.

Do: Obey the Rules

You’re at a music festival and want to cut loose, but there are still rules to follow. If you try to sneak in something that’s forbidden, it can be costly in more ways than one. Some campgrounds don’t allow certain things, so be sure to check the rules before going.

Do: Stay Hydrated

It’s important to drink plenty of water, especially if it’s hot outside. Most festivals allow you to take in a 500ml bottle per person, and they all provide refill stations for convenience.

Do: Take Plenty of Pics

Instead of taking a chance with your expensive smartphone, consider taking in a few disposable cameras with flash for nighttime shots. These cameras are very light, and the prints have a retro feel.

Don’t: Lock up Your Tent

No one can prevent all festival thievery, but you can take certain measures. All a padlock does is tell others that you may have valuables. It’s easy to get into a tent, so just leave valuables at home and don’t draw attention to your campsite.

Don’t: Forget the Sunscreen

Outdoor festivals are notorious for rain, but when the sun does shine, you should be ready. Sunburns are never comfortable, especially when you’re sleeping in a tent. By bringing a travel-size sunscreen, you can be prepared for the hottest rays of the day.

Music festivals are fun, but being unprepared can take away much of that fun. By following this quick list of do’s and don’ts, you’ll be ready when festival season rolls around.

Where To Buy Guitar Strings?

There are many technical factors which can influence your guitar string selection. The properties of the sound and response of a given string can have a strong impact on both the player and the instrument. The relative hardness of the string’s component materials in conjunction with an array of treatments the strings undergo during the manufacturing process can combine to create different degrees of sustain, timbre (warmth vs brightness), playability and longevity.

Historically, strings were made of wound gut materials with the lower bass strings wound with various metals. There are several manufacturers still making strings in the historic methods today as well as many synthetic strings designed to replicate the sound and feel of traditional gut strings.

Today, there are three primary guitar string categories: classical guitar strings (nylon, fluorocarbon and other synthetics with bass strings wound with various metals), acoustic guitar strings (steel, bronze, phosphor bronze, nickel, etc.) and electric guitar strings (steel, nickel and other metals chosen for electromagnetic properties) .

Guitar notes for beginners.

Notes of a guitar in traditional music theory are represented by the first seven letters of the Latin alphabet; A, B, C, D, E, F, and G.

However these aren’t the only notes in music, there are also sharp and flats, and they fall between these main notes. The sharp is pitched one note above the main note, making it sharper. Where as the flat notes are literally flattened a semi-tone below a main note; hence it is flat. Confusing but flats and sharps are actually the same note. The symbol for sharp is # and the symbol for flat is b .

The key of G is one of the most widely used keys in classical & popular music. This is because a lot of the chords in the key are easy to play on many instruments.

The key of G consists of the following notes: G, A, B, C, D, E, & F#.

The open chords we can play from the key of G are: G, Am, C, D, Em.

Each finger is represented by the number 1 to 4.  An x means that you do not play that string when strumming the chord.

Take the note between G and A. This note can be called either G# or Ab.

There are 2 places in the musical alphabet where there are no sharps or flats — between E and F,and between B and C.

Also pay close attention to the string names, from the thickest most string to the thinnest the names are E A D G B E.An easy way to remember them is with the phrase Every August Dogs Go Biting Elvis.
